Hey everyone
Just a quick update about whats been happening in the last few weeks, as its been a while since I have posted anything I have been doing a little bit of patching to the site to get a few things working better. I have also switched the hardware around a bit, so the site is now running on a new dedicated server, that only hosts CVGM and nothing else so we should get a bit of performance increase, especially as my other dedicated VMWare server is getting kinda old and decrepit like me Its an 8-core, 8Gb Xeon setup, nothing too fancy, but more processing power than was available before. I have also been pruning the database quite a bit, i have stripped a lot of crap out that didn't need to be there, so the database is now performing at its maximum capability, i'm sure there are some settings I can keep tweaking at to balance between performance and memory, but I will keep ongoing with those over the next few weeks. The other big fix is that search is now fixed and working again. Its updated once a day right now (about 2am EST time) so its ready for the Euro guys in the morning. Ive been trying to fix the partial search update files, but they are not cooperating,. This is (was) a script that ran every 15 mintes or so to keep the database search refreshed. It's still giving me a bunch of crap and the only way to do it right now is via a complete rebuild of the search index, which is taking a bit of time. I have also fixed the favicon image. Thanks for the bugging to do that Over the next couple of weeks i'm going to start making a few more improvements to the overall site. I want to go through the old Necta code and see if any of the optimizations from that tree are worth putting here and try to get those trees fairly similar. Once thats done, i'll push an update to the code over at GitHub (Link can be found Here). This is the only official place right now, I would very much prefer to move it to a SubVersion repo though After that, it's full speed ahead to add some new features and fixes. I know there are some things we should fix faster than others, so if you read this and have an idea or suggestion, please let me know below and I will get on it. I have some new ideas in mind that I want to try and work with, and with all the crap going on with Necta and such, I no longer care if the source trees match. They can borrow from our code tree if they want to support it A big thanks to everyone on CVGM for your patience. I couldn't do stuff like this without your support and patience FishGuy876/Brainstorm |
